The duck and the gremlins
I painted this jacket for myself. I also wanted a comic motif. The Duck flies a Gee Bee, a racing aeroplane from around 1932 and he’d better duck, because the Gremlins don’t want anything good. Or should the Gremlins duck???
The children’s book “The Gremlins” was written by Roald Dahl and published by Walt D. in 1943. It was also supposed to be followed by a movie, but this never happened. Gremlins are small mythological creatures. In the British Royal Air Force, “Gremlins” were used to describe technical problems during operations, which are illustrated here.
I used the Comics cover of the July 1943 issue as a template for this idea. I used parts of it and adapted many others according to my wishes.
Fifinella, a female Gremlin, is also known to many as the WASP mascot with wings. I have reinterpreted her as a front patch. She is sitting on a moon and has stars and aeroplanes in the background.
